DON HOWLAND REVIEW OF
"ALL CHOKED UP" EP
The day will probably come when I stop going through stacks of 7"ers
by American bands just to find the maybe 1.8% of it that's cool, and when that day comes I'll start missing out on stuff like this record,
which is by a band I've never heard of and which is, in fact, totally cool. Whoever the fuck The Butchers are (the promo sheet says
something about this being a solo project by one of The Butchers, but the record doesn't), they put out one killer rec here.
A gritty sound that recalls "Exile" - era Stones, the Neon Boys, X- X (esp. in the insane git solo on "Furor Poeticus"), and maybe
old Fire Engines on two of the songs; the third one sounds like Muria Muldauer guest-vocaling on a moody but uptempo (and gritty) rasta-type thing.
I love it all. I know the few dicks that read my stuff in here never bother to send away for the records I dig, but let me try one more time:
write to Notown Records, Hollywood.
